1. All riding horses must be at least THREE years of age. (Jan
1 of their three year old year). |
2. Suitable WESTERN ATTIRE includes
Boots, Hat, Shirt
with Collar and Sleeves. Chaps optional.
NO logo'd attire allowed in
show arena. |
|
|
|
3. Enter the ring counterclockwise and on
the rail ( wall ). Leave space between you and the next rider.
Continue riding around the arena on the rail following the
instructions form the announcer about what gate to be on or other
instructions ( see below )...... until the announcer tells you to
"line up".
Finish your circle
without cutting through the middle of the
arena and then turn and face the judge with each person being in
a nice straight line. |
|
4. Jog means "SLOW trot" - listen for announcer's
instructions about when to change gaits.

|
|
5. "Reverse" means turn around and go the
other way. This can be called for at any gait.
Turn your horse towards the center of the ring to
do this.
Then immediately get back on the rail ( wall ).
You must maintain your forward motion while
reversing.
|
|
If your horse has a
longer stride then it IS acceptable to pass another horse
courteously.
Do not crowd the other horse but merely walk or trot past it towards
the inside of the arena
and then assume your position back on the rail (wall). |
|
6. Your horse will be expected to BACK a few
steps on command for the judge.

Good job.....now pick up up your ribbon when your
name is called !
Typically you might raise your hand so the person handing out the
ribbons knows it is you.
If there is only one judge at a show, then you leave the ring after
you have received your ribbon.
